    I. SASgov Events & Announcements

    1. (Get ready to) Like SASgov on facebook! A rehaul is underway on the SASgov page so keep an eye out for its GRAND REOPENING announcement in the coming weeks.  This is where we'll be keeping you abreast of all our so0o0o0cial events.

    While we're at it, don't forget about the SASgov website! : www.sasgov.org.

    2. SPEAKING OF SOCIAL EVENTS, prepare thee for the annual School of Arts & Sciences kick-off partySAS-BASH (oooh, ahhh) that's going to be held Thursday Sept 29 in the Penn Museum's courtyard, 5:30-9:30. Come have a drink, have a bite, fraternize and mingle. Free to SAS students with Penn ID and $5 for anyone else.  Prepare thee also to show 21+ IDs at the door.

    3. Penn Infant Language Center wants YOU (and YOUR BABY):  

    The PENN Infant Language Center wants to observe babies and young children react to known and new words. They hope the findings will contribute to knowledge of normal language development, and ultimately benefit children at risk for language problems. Observing youngsters may even lead to better and more reliable early interventions for children with language difficulties.

    4. Do you want to be a SASgov rep for your department? Let us know! Contact last year's rep in your department for more info.  If you don't know who that was, please contact me at sasgov-comm@sas.upenn.edu, with subject line "SASgov rep interest" to let us know!  

    5. SASgov reps and interested parties: Our first general body meeting will be Tuesday Sept. 20 5:30-7:30pm at the Graduate Student Center (GSC) "conference room" on the 2nd floor.

    6. Do you want to be a GAPSA rep for SASgov? Let us know that too! You'll need to come before the SASgov general body at our next meeting and be voted on--but if you feel prepared for the job, give yourself some credit and come give it a try! Contact Evelyn at sasgov-comm@sas.upenn.edu with subject line "GAPSA rep interest" to find out more.  We'll be asking you for a spiel at our SASgov general body meeting next Tuesday (mentioned above).

    1. ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL DEVT

    a. STUDENT GROUPS: Sign up for the Graduate Student Activities Fair 

    Wednesday, 9/28, 3-5pm on the College Green. Deadline for registration: Wednesday, 9/14.

    b. 100 volunteers needed for research project. ($20 compensation)

    It's IGF/growth hormone research and basically requires volunteers to fill out a short health questionnaire and if they qualify, do a saliva swab and get a small amount of blood taken. Each person who participates will get $20.  The project recently got IRB approved, which means that I now have the green light on getting the word out about this project and our need for volunteers. Contact: Merissa Blais mb2442@gmail.com
