Information for TAs
TA Student Evaluations
SAS has moved all evaluations from paper and pencil evaluations online. This can be especially helpful when trying to secure a job with a teaching post. Get a quick summary of your students’ feedback and see each individual response online here:TA Student Evaluations

TA Training
Students who will be first-time Penn TAs will receive TA training Sept. 1, 2 and 3, 2010. Most but not all SAS graduate students who will be teaching for the first time in 2010-2011 are required to attend. If you have questions about whether you have to attend, please ask your Graduate Group Chair or Program Director.
TA Training is run by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
You can find a more general academic calendar at the Registrar’s site.
Teaching certificate
The Center for Teaching and Learning offers a Teaching Certificate for graduate students who are either currently TA’s or are teaching their own courses. In order to get your teaching certificate, you must:
- Complete five CTL-approved teaching workshops
- Complete at least two semesters as a teaching assistant or instructor
- Have a full teaching session observed and reviewed by a member of the CTL staff
- Develop a statement of teaching philosophy and discuss it in a CTL session (which you will be invited to having complete the other steps)
To look at the requirements more in-depth and for a list of CTL-approved workshops, please visit http://www.sas.upenn.edu/ctl/grad/certificate.html.
