3. Other University Events
a. Call for papers: Graduate Workshop of the Penn Interdisciplinary Program for Democracy, Citizenship and Constitutionalism
The Graduate Workshop of the Penn Interdisciplinary Program for Democracy, Citizenship and Constitutionalism is now calling for proposals for papers to present in the fall 2009 semester. This call is open to all graduate students at Penn and in the Philadelphia area. We are interested in bringing into dialogue a variety of scholars, approaches and themes, especially as related to this year’s topic of Sovereignty, Territoriality, and Plural Citizenships. Paper topics might include questions of identity, colonial discourses, diplomacy, nationalisms, postcolonial state formation, gender and citizenship, contests over and within national and territorial boundaries, and liberation movements. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please send a provisional title and a short abstract (200 to 300 words) no later than August 17th to PennDCC@gmail.com.
You can find the abstracts and papers from previous workshops on the DCCGraduate Workshop website: http://www.sas.upenn.edu/dcc/workshops/graduate.html
Please also email us if you would like to be added to any of the DCC emailing lists or have any questions about the DCC graduate workshop. PennDCC@gmail.com
b. Daily Pennsylvanian looking for columnists and cartoonists!
The Daily Pennsylvanian is looking for witty, creative, and dedicated people to author weekly or bi-weekly print columns and to pen weekly cartoons for our publication. We seek out the most diverse, interesting, and funny voices on campus to make students think and laugh. Every day, 12,000 copies of the DP are picked up around campus, where students turn to the editorial page to hear commentary on the day’s issues. The role is time-intensive, but ultimately incredibly rewarding. Applications are due August 25, 2009. Please contact Alyssa Schwenk at applications@dailypennsylvanian.com if you have any questions or visit dailypennsylvanian.com.
