 The year is winding down but there is still plenty to do. This Thursday SASgov and GAPSA are each having a happy hour. Details are below. If you bought tickets for the April 20th Phillies game, we will be having a tailgate. Please e-mail sasgov-social@sas.upenn.edu with your e-mail so we can let you know where it will be held. Finally, there are still positions available in SASgov to serve your graduate students as VP of Policy, VP of Communications, VP of Social Activities and as a GAPSA representative. 1. SASgov Elections-positions still open!
Are you interested in becoming more involved in what goes on around school? Want to meet more people from all different departments around SAS and get a free dinner every week? Think about joining running for a SASgov executive position. There are six positions available including VP of Communications, VP of Policy, and VP of Social Activities. Once you have decided to run you will be asked to come to the SASgov general body meeting on April 21 at 6:30 in 3619 Locust Walk in order to give a speech and answer the representative’s questions.

2. SASgov Happy Hour this Thursday
SASgov will be having its last happy hour at 3619 Locust Walk (maybe for good) so stop by this Thursday the 16th at 5:00 to enjoy free beer or wine and great food. Bring your friends outside of SAS for just $5! Penn SAS grad ID is required as is a state ID with proof of age.

If you bought tickets from SASgov for the Phillies, join the social committee from SASgov for a free tailgate. If you are a SAS grad student and happen to be going to the game you are welcome to join too!

4. SASgov At SHOFUSO! 

Come join your fellow SAS students for a Japanese Tea
Ceremony at the Shofuso Japanese Tea House in Fairmount Park

hosting a private tea party at the Tea House. To get there, you can take
either the #40 bus from 36th and Spruce or the #38 from Center City to
Belmont Ave., then walk about a block to the Tea House; or check the

GAPSA Sponsored Nursing School Happy Hour @ Mar Bar

Date: April 16, 2009
Location: 200 S 40th St, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (40th and Walnut)
Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Price: Free for Penn graduate and professional students with valid Penn ID and 21+ ID. Guests are $5 at the door.
Details: Two drink tickets for domestic beers and house wines for first 200 guests. Drinks are $3 after drink tickets run out. Hors’ dourves will be served.
Must show valid 21+ ID and Penn grad card.

* GAPSA Etiquette Dinner Co-hosted by the School of Veterinary Medicine

The Etiquette dinner is an opportunity for students across Penn’s Graduate and Professional Schools to network with each other while learning the rules of etiquette for business and other formal occasions.  A full meal with wine will be served over the course of a presentation and discussion.

Event Restrictions: must be 21+ to drink. Dress is business casual. Please be prompt to arrive, late guests will not be allowed in the venue or seated for food service after 7:30 p.m.

* GAPSA Trip to Morris Arboretum

Date: Saturday April 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Cost: Free to those with a valid PennCard, but you must reserve a space at http://gapsa.ticketleap.com(Penn graduate and professional students may reserve space for non-PennCard guests, but they will be required to pay regular admission at the door)
Details: Join graduate and professional students for a trip to Morris Arboretum, the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Wander the paths, discover intimate garden spaces, and enjoy babbling brooks and cascading fountains. The trip includes round-trip transportation, a “Garden Highlights” tour, and time to explore the arboretum, or visit the gift shop and cafe. There will be a special display by artist Patrick Dougherty (for more information, visit http://www.stickwork.net/).

* GAPSA Volunteering at Red Cross Walk to Save Lives

Date: Saturday, April 18, 2009 Time: TBD (participants will receive an email when our volunteer time is confirmed)

Place: Fairmount Park, 4231 North Concourse Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19131

Join fellow Penn graduate and professional students as we volunteer at the Philly Red Cross Walk. Volunteers will help with the prize distribution, route set-up, water stops, signage, collection of pledges, and registration. You will get a t-shirt in exchange for volunteering.

4. * 1st Annual Oral Cancer Walk Philadelphia

Date: April 18, Saturday, 2009

Time: 8:30am-2pm

School: School of Dental Medicine

 

Oral and pharyngeal cancer affects thousands of Americans and causes over 8,000 deaths each year!  It is a disease that warrants much attention yet seldom gets it.  The School of Dental Medicine brings you the 1st Annual Oral Cancer Walk in Philadelphia!  Please help us increase awareness about oral cancer and with this goal in mind, we hope you will join us in this great cause.  Registration/sponsorship fee is $20, which benefits the Oral Cancer Foundation.  The 3.1-mile walk starts and ends at Penn Dental.  Free oral screenings, refreshments, and live entertainment will be provided.  Oral cancer survivors walk for free!  Please visit our website for complete details and registration info: http://www.oralcancerwalkphilly.org
